Before I unplug from the computer to wrap gifts and spend time with my family playing endless rounds of checkers and Uno and eating my way into a sugar coma, I just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful year and leave you with a few announcements:
As I begin booking sessions for 2011* I am limiting the number of sessions I shoot. I typically book 4-6 weeks in advance so please book early!

1. When things slow down during and just after the holiday season, I make time to shoot a personal project (or two). I am still shooting mothers and children and am always looking for willing mothers! My goal is to photograph the beauty of motherhood in all it’s highs and lows. These will not be posed photos but true, documentary style photographs to capture the little moments that make up a mother’s day. Participants will receive complimentary prints. Email or call (225.485.0022) for details. Currently I am looking for pregnant mamas willing to have baby’s birth photographed, mamas with nursing newborns, stay at home mamas with toddlers.
2. I am looking for a couple to photograph for a lifestyle session. You don’t have to be engaged but you should be in love and comfortable in front of the camera. If you’re interested, please email a snapshot of you and your significant other as well as your contact info. I know this is the season for a lot of engagements so if you know of someone that would be interested in a free couple/engagement session this Spring, please pass the word along!

I recently read this article…a sort of rant against the posed Christmas card portrait. Whether it’s for a Christmas card or for your walls, the posed portrait is boring and is rarely a reflection of the person/people in the portrait. After the article went live the author commented on it elsewhere saying, “The ‘posed’ photos say ‘This is what we wish.’ Spontaneous says ‘This is what we are.’ I find truth always refreshing.” I could not agree more. This really resonated with me since shooting posed family photographs is something I *ahem* loathe. There. I said it. Posed does not interest me. I find it unnatural and boring – boring to shoot, boring to look at. When I photograph your family I want to bring my creativity to the session. I want to capture your family in a way that tells your story because really, if you get down to it, I tell stories. I just tell them with my camera.
So this year I am committing to shoot the things that inspire me and keep me motivated creatively: people living life, moving, playing, loving. I believe the magic is in the moment. Spontaneous. Candid. Unposed. I am happy to photograph special days and ordinary days, tea parties, peanut butter fingers, running through sprinklers, backyard bbqs. The photographs I capture will tell your story long after the days of smudged cheeks and koolaid mustaches are gone. If you’d like for me to tell the story of you and your loved ones email or call (225.485.0022). I’d love to talk to you about how we can tell your story together.
* I am currently booking newborns due in 2011 as well as lifestyle sessions (babies, children, seniors, couples, maternity) and boudoir sessions for February and March.
